Amboseli Sopa Lodge

At the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, resides the Amboseli Sopa Lodge, set on 200 acres of precious land, not far from where Ernest Hemingway lived whilst writing his famous novel, "The Snows of Kilimanjaro." Amboseli National Reserve (formerly Amboseli National Park) is home to the Maasai community, over 400 species of breeding birds and teams with rare and wonderful wildlife. Sopa lodge Swimming pool

The design of the lodge is interesting in that the rooms are individual circular huts with thatched roofs giving a superficial appearance of an upmarket African village. Inside, the rooms are extremely spacious and well equipped - the bathroom being particularly large.

There appear to be two gift shops, a standard lodge shop and a much larger craft shop run by a group of Maasai women. Click here for more information about Amboseli Sopa in National Park

This lodge is half an hour away from the nearest park gate, but there are animals on the way - we saw zebra, giraffe, antelope, gazelle and others, and you drive past maasi villages as well. It is also a really good opportunity for a nap - by the time you get to amboseli I recon most people will be used to the awful roads in Kenya so you might be able to get some sleep. This Park has huge amounts of wildlife and because it is flat, its every where you look.

They are famous for their huge amounts of elephants, and we also saw 2 lions and 2 cheetahs here. The cheetahs walked out right in front of our truck-so impressive.

If you want to see a maasi village, here is a good opportunity. Ask your driver to see if he can arrange it for you in between drives.

The Sopa Lodge makes it the perfect rendezvous for the adventurer wishing to conquer the snowcapped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro or for the seasoned traveler indulging in the exhilarating safari experience. .
