BAMATSABA COMMUNITIES AND THEIR CULTURAL HEADS

by Richard Gudoi Gidagui
(Johannesburg)

Dear all,

Allow me to correct the above observation and comment that Bagishu* choose their chiefs according to wealth.

I find this not well reseached.
First we the BamMatsaba(correct spelling) people and NOT BAGISU (was a nickname by Masai people) has no bearing or meaning in Matsaba land.

Chiefs and or elders in our tradition was based on inheritancy based on first SON from the wedded wife if not first wife of the grand elder is to succeed the clan focus.

there other cultural norms to follow in case the first wife or wedded wife(wedding was common among the BaMatsaba people and the occassion was called Chikhyeyah or kyikyeya) did not bear any son, then they would find the first son from the second wife.

there are also some detail not mentioned about choosing a thief or elder. So our history must not be distorted by those who want to depict themselves to have done deeper research about our culture.

I would welcome some one to to do deeper research and develop or revive the LuMatsaba language to start with assembling a dictionary before the remaining few elders pass on.

This is argent since they will dispear from earth with good knowledge unwritten anywhere about our communities right from the Banyole,BaMatsaba, BaBukhutsu,Maragori,Kisi AND link this to the great Kingdom of the Mumias.

I will welcome more enlightment thanks for the internet and education. Richard Gudoi Gid'Agui(Gidaguyi)
