Blue Mango

I am regular visitor to Blue Mango during my stay in Kampala. The place is Clean, albeit slightly basic, safari-lodge style accommodation but everything else is just superb. Click here for more information about Safari Lodge accommodation in Uganda

The atmosphere in the popular restaurant/bar/lounge, straddling the pool, is that of a giant chill-out room with sofas everywhere, cool lighting and Buddha Bar style music. The staff are extremely friendly, the food is great (I recommend the steak) and the management (Mark and Andrea, both Brits) are great fun and extremely professional.Click here for more information about Ugandan Food

Mamba Point

The Mamba Point guest house is indeed a peaceful haven that sits in quiet tranquility on Nakasero hill above the chaos of central Kampala.Click here for more Information about Kampala CityMy friends and I looked forward to stepping through the gate of the compound every evening after a long, hot, dusty day in the suburbs of the city. The owners make you feel as though you are at home with them

The staffs are unobtrusive, efficient and friendly.I work and travel frequently but i would highly recommend the Mamba Point as a more personal alternative to the larger hotels in the region. It also has the best Italian restaurant under the same ownership

Location

Mamba Point is an exquisite gem of an accommodation resort, located in the very exclusive and safe Nakasero area. Strategically sited on Akii Bua Road, just two minutes away from the city centre, it is adjacent to Mamba Point Restaurant.

This newest addition to Uganda's Budget hotels, boasts unequaled accommodation and service, all delivered in a convivial environment where the customers are treasured and made feel at home.
Facilities

Guests can enjoy leisure activities such as swimming, a gym and a sauna. All the six rooms have large twin beds, en suite bathroom, satellite TV and international telephone facilities.

In addition, each room is equipped with an air conditioner, a secure safe with client programmable code and last but not least a 24x7x365 Internet connection, both wireless within the compound and wired in the rooms.

Services English or continental breakfasts are included in the price. Laundry is also available as well as snacks.

Buziga Country Resort

If you arrive in Entebbe at night, make sure the cabdriver knows his way around. The resort is kind of hidden in the the Buziga area, but once there you have reached a safe haven with all necessary services as far as Budget hotels in Uganda is concerned and above all, the greatest staff ever.

Don’t hesitate to ask for room service, If you are searching for a fancy and shiny hotel, don’t go, but the traveller looking for a clean, safe and budget, hotel where the staff is willing to do that little extra to make sure you feel at home, this is the place to be.Click here for more information about Kampala's fancy and shiny Hotels

The resort has rooms and self contained cottages, a restaurant, a bar and a health club.

Its not situated close to town but you can jump on a taxi bus in front of the resort or enjoy the 15 minutes walk to the main road to Kampala to get a taxi from there.

Hotel Diplomate Muyenga

It's probably worth staying here for the views of Kampala and Lake Victoria alone! This Budget hotel is located at the top of Tank Hill, one of seven hills the city is built on. It's a nice area with embassies and NGO offices nearby.

I think the room prices are reasonable for Kampala, they start at $35 for standard. We had a 'superior' at $45. I believe the honeymoon suite is $75. In our cottage (as they called it) we had a smallish bedroom with attached bathroom and a small sitting area (with a couple of easy chairs and a TV). But all the same good. What do you expect from a developing country

Metropolem Hotel Kampala

Metropole Hotel Kampala ,overlooks the Uganda Golf Course and is located within the premium localities of Kampala, also known as the city of 21 Hills.

Metropole Hotel one of the budget hotels in Kampala is the pioneer in using IP Telephony infrastructure in the Hospitality industry in Africa. It is also equipped with high speed Wireless Internet connection in all rooms and public areas

Its Kitchen is decorated nicely and equipped with fridge, microwave oven, electric oven, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, glass ware. There are even teabags and basic seasonings provided.

Kamapla Regency one of the budget hotels

In October I visited Kampala. I stayed at Kampala Regency Hotel as one of the budget hotels in Kampala. The staff was very helpful. Especially a young man named Andrew! There was a good selection of food for breakfast and dinner.

There are 3 internet cafes directly below the hotel. The hotel gave a great view of Kampala. The rooms were nice and the housekeeping was wonderful. This is a great hotel to stay at during your trip to uganda especially Kampala

Tourist Hotel

If you're going to stay in Kampala and have a decent budget, you'll probably want to stay in one of the Imperial group budget hotels or at the Sheraton.

But for travelers without a ton of cash, I'd recommend the Tourist without much hesitation. I stayed there for about 3 days January 2008, and, unless anything has changed there for the worse,

The Tourist is cheap (if you have U.S. dollars, pay with those, because you'll get a cheaper rate), pretty clean, located in a decent area of downtown Kampala (right across the street from the busy Nakasero Market, pretty close to a good grocery store, and within walking distance to a number of Internet cafes), and has a decent restaurant. Click here for more information about other cheap hotels in Uganda

I should note a number on downsides (and there are quite a few). It can tend to be a tad noisy some nights (particularly weekends), as people come and go from their rooms, and especially if you're in one of the rooms (as I was) with a window facing the bar/restaurant (rather than the street).

In sum, I'd recommend the Tourist for travelers on a budget who aren't looking for a place with a lot of amenities

Location

Tourist Hotel is the epitome of fine experience for Fine Dining.

With the legacy of the Chefs, the Hotel captivates visitors with its best services this budget hotel is situated in Kampala and is within walking distance of commercial offices, shops, and banks. Taxis are easily accessed.

It offers the capitalist and tourist, a sole feeling - luxury service at compute prices. This hotel has been not long ago taken over by The Speke Group of Hotels and changed into a well designated, spacious, en-suite rooms each fitted with the most recent swipe card entry system to ensure privacy and security.

Accommodation

¨

Tourist Hotel has 70 comfortable rooms, which are Superior Double Room and Deluxe Double Room, Standard Single, Standard Double Room and Superior Single Room.¨ Air-conditioned rooms/suites

Speke Hotel

This Budget hotel has wonderful charm and is nicely located if you want to be in the heart of Kampala.

The staff were excellent and responsive to all requests. I had a room on the back side of the hotel which was thankfully quiet since the bars in front of the hotel can be quite loud and run late into the night.

If you're staying here definitely ask reception for a room that doesn't face the street. This is also not a credit card friendly place (except for paying for your room)...none of the bars and restaurants attached to the hotel accept them.

You should also know that breakfast is NOT included in the room rate though they do have a reasonable breakfast menu whose price can be added into your room rate (read: chargeable).

Really, the only problem I had with the place was the ridiculous number of prostitutes who ply their trade there. If you are like me then, this is problem. But for those who like African ladies, then don't miss this hotel.

If you are a man and alone (or with other male friends) you should expect to be accosted at least once an hour by someone who wants to sit down and "talk." Seriously, in the week I stayed I had no less than 50 women try to provide me with company.

Some would kindly walk away if you said no but others would continue to pester you until I finally found I had to walk back to my room just to get out of the situation (never mind everyone looking at you).

The hotel does little to keep such women out so I would not suggest the Speke as a place if you're going on a family vacation.

Location

Speke Hotel is a 3 star hotel but it is among the budget hotels in Uganda .Located in the heart of Kampala, close to banks and business centers and offers all the charms of bygone days complimented by efficient, modern service and facilities it Offers various dishes, daily entertainment, well stocked bar and business meetings.Click here for more information about Entertainment in Kampala and Uganda in general
