The 'main town' in the district, Bulisa, is located 80 kilometres (50 mi), by road, northwest of Masindi, the largest town in the sub-region. The coordinates of the district are:02 11N, 31 24E. Overview of Bulisa Bulisa was created in 2006 by the Ugandan Parliament. Prior to that, Bulisa was part of Masindi District. The district is primarily rural and most people in the district are either pastoralists Bulisa or subsistence agriculturalists. Population of Bulisa The 2002 national census estimated the population of the district at 64,823. The annual population growth rate in the district is estimated at 4.0%. Using those statistics, it is estimated that the population of Bulisa in 2009 is approximately 85,304. Economic activities in Bulisa During the first 10 years of the 2000s, a considerable amount of crude oil deposits have been discovered in the district. _________________________________________________
