What a wonderful experience, Camp Fig Tree Lodge in Masai Mara is a fantastic place, we stayed in a tent! Over the Talek river, where the hippo's and elephants usually come at night. The tent, is a luxury.
The safari's again were fantastic, we seen four of the big 5, the local Masai really do know how to track the animals, and know so much about all the animals on the Masai mara.

Don’t go thinking a stay at Camp Fig Tree Lodge in Masai Mara National Park is relaxing, its not. Up at 6am & out on Safari/Game drive at 6:30am to catch the night predators coming off their shift, back for breakfast at 8:30am approx then back out at 10am for the second game drive of the day. When it comes to foods and beverages, the camp is full board with buffet style meals although soups are served to the table for lunch & dinner, I have to say the food is superb, far better than what we had got in other main resort hotel
At Camp Fig Tree Lodge, there is a good selection of wine at affordable prices as well. The camp has a pool which it has to be said is very small & suffers from a lot of debris from the encroaching trees & shrubs but that’s not what the Masai Mara is about. There are around 40 tents & about 30 cabins at the camp, most tents face the Talek river which regularly has Hippo’s visiting. The Masai Mara itself is alive everywhere you look with Lions, Cheetahs, Hippo, Crocs, Zebra, Wilder beast, Hyenas, Mongoose, Buffalo, Many birds including Eagles, the list goes on.
You are woken every morning at 6am, with fresh Tea and Coffee waiting for you before your game drive starts at 06;30am. You get 3 game drives every day with Tea and Coffee available free before and after each drive.
And what a drive.......We had a driver who was fantastic and very informative. He managed to get you so close to the animals that you could almost touch them, but yet still felt very safe. We saw animals in a way that we could only have hoped, it is truly amazing.
Fig Tree Camp is located on the banks of the Talek River in the world famous Masai Mara Game Reserve.. The camp is situated on the northern border of the national reserve and its central location makes all areas of the reserve accessible during game drives. To make an evening a real adventure at the Fig Tree Camp, one can choose to stay in a tent or a chalet, giving the best of both worlds. The rooms spaciously line up along the Talek River, overlooking the plains of the national reserve.
