The Indian Ocean Beach Club is located 40 kms in clear white sandy beaches and surrounded by swaying coconut palm gloves and magnificent old stoic baobabs.
The resort, south of Kenya’s old seaport, Mombasa, is adjacent to the site of the 16th century Kongo Mosque. All the double and twin bedded club rooms are tastefully appointed with local hand carved furnishings and are filled with luxurious amenities.
The Kenyan coast was once ruled by the rich Sultans of Zanzibar, hence the architecture is Arabic and a lot of antics from the Sultans Palace have been used as décor. The main reception has an antique "Chandelier" given to the Sultan by British traders for landing rights.
The Indian Ocean Beach Club Hotel Mombasa has a small pool and 3 plunge pools, about 12 feet in diameter, in the grounds. However on the beach there is a coral shelf and when the tide goes out it is lovely to lie in. The sea is like a bath, as are the pools. The grounds are immaculately kept and everything is very pretty.More information about Accommodation rates and bookings
The food was good, there was a different menu each night and there was always pasta if you didn't fancy what was on offer. The breakfasts were great with plenty of choice. We ate at Balhari Cove (restaurant at end of beach, where residents get a 20% discount) one evening and it was lovely. The cottages are beautiful and very clean and the hotel staff can't do enough for you.
