Kicheche Camp Maasai Mara

Travel Business

SBI!

Kicheche Camp Maasai Mara is right in the middle of the action. One minute we were watching a pride of lions, the next minute we were 200m away arriving into the camp.

At night there were all sorts of noises outside, and you'd hear from the staff in the morning of buffalo and elephant having wandered into the camp.

The tents are really excellent. Very roomy, beautifully decorated, lovely bathroom facilities. The hot water bottles, bucket showers and morning wakeups with tea and cookies were all excellent.

We stayed in quite a number of other places on our three week trip and these tents were by far the most luxurious! Kicheche Camp Maasai Mara is a must visit.

Of the three camps and areas we visited, the Kicheche Camp was the best, and the Mara area has the best and largest amount of animals.

In fact, the camp is inside of the wildlife area, so at night and in the morning, you'll need a local 'askari' (watchman) to take you back to your tent, lest there be animals nearby.

Far from being dangerous, it is quite thrilling and indicative of where you are at that moment in time. And right when you drive out of the camp, there are animals as far as the eye can see, and in every direction. Kicheche is unique.

The communal dining allows you to meet other travelers from around the world, and compare and discuss your travels and that day's sightings. The food and service were fantastic. The management superb, and the guides very knowledgeable.

And the game drives were longer and more in-depth than at the other camps. Breakfast out in the field, and 'sundowners' in the plains amongst the animals were a thrill Because there are quite a few vehicles out on drives, the drivers communicate when there is a good sighting (the one downside of the Mara is, due to it's popularity and excellent wildlife, it will be more crowded than other parks.

We once had eight vehicles tracking a cheetah, whereas in other parks, you'll be the only vehicle, but don't let this stop you). You must do a day trip to the Mara River and Mara Reserve, where you can see first hand where the migration happens.

We had a picnic lunch overlooking the Mara River, along with baboons, elephants, and hippos. The tents were clean, private, and comfortable.

The bucket showers take a little getting used to, but it's all worth it. Kicheche Camp Maasai Mara was our favourite part of our two-week trip

Kicheche Camp Maasai Mara is a small, classic, intimate, luxury tented camp completely unfenced, accomodating a maximum of twelve guests.

Kicheche Bush Camp is located in the Masai Mara within the Olare Orok Conservancy ( Koiyaki Group Ranch) bordering the reserve.

The camp is located in the prime wildlife area and game viewing starts right from the camp itself.

The location is ideal to experience the wildebeest migration. Acess is from Ol Kiombo airstrip, 40 minutes game drive away.
