Staying at Kikoti Safari Camp Tarangire should be on your list of 100-things-to-do-before-you-die. Kikoti is definitely a camp, though it is not tented. The rooms are A-frame buildings on stilts. They are open-air but protected with mosquito netting. There is a shower, toilet, and wash basins in every room.
The experience is rustic - it is glorified camping with limitations on water usage and electricity, but it is comfortable and memorable. At night there are armed watchmen who must escort you between your room and the restaurant/bar area because of the danger of wild animals.
The food is very good. The chef is Indian (from Delhi) and so was the food: curry, chickpea soup, lamb, chicken, vegetables. Of the places we stayed on this trip, I think Kikoti had the best food.
The manager Zoltan is Hungarian. He seems a little uptight, but soon you realize it is only because he is so eager to please. There is a tip box and the tips are split evenly between all the workers - seen and unseen. Of the places we stayed on this trip we left the largest tip here.If you are offered a 1km "Sun-downer" nature hike to nearby Kikoti Rock, I highly recommend that you do it. The hike is escorted by one of the bartender who is very knowledgeable on the local flora and fauna. The hike ends with a climb of Kikoti Rock and cocktails at the summit.
The view is staggering. If you are a photographer, bring your wide angle lens and a graduated neutral density filter and you may capture the best African sunset of your trip.
Kikoti Safari Camp Tarangire is in a beautiful setting, high on a hill overlooking the central area of Tarangire. You probably won't see much wild life in the camp, but there was an aardwolf wandering through camp at night while we were here, and several dikdiks. You have to walk through camp at night with a Masaai guard, and the walk to the dining area can be quite long, if you're in one of the further houses. The drive to this camp is quite long and rugged because it's situated outside of Taranguire, but this is a benefit too, because you can go on a night drive.
The night drive was well done, although we didn't see a lot of night life, except for some jackals and a civet and some mongooses. The tents are EXTREMELY comfortable, and well appointed.
Kikoti Safari Camp Tarangire's proximity to Tarangire National Park offers a wide choice of exploratory game drives through the classic African savannah and acacia parkland of this unproclaimed wilderness.
Moreover, the camp's position in the migratory corridor just outside the Park provides a range of activities that are forbidden elsewhere in the gamelands of Northern Tanzania.
Activities like, nature walks, foot safaris and extended bush trekking with rangers are all ways to get back to the primeval state of nature.
Uncovering the dens, feeding habits and waterholes of the African wildlife and learning more about the symbiotic intricacies of the eco-system that surrounds you.
Kikoti Safari Camp Tarangire recaptures the time-honoured splendour of the traditional safari camp of yester-year, when comfort was defined by superior service and camp fire hospitality rather than modern conveniences.
Each of the ten large tents has sewn-in floors and plumbed en-suite facilities and have been laid out in the traditional safari manner with wooden beds, fresh linen and a veranda from which to admire the views of the Silale wetlands inthe valley below.

Kikoti is a Maasai word for "the place where life began". This luxury tented camp offers accommodation in ten tents that have been laid out in the traditional safari manner with wooden beds, fresh linen and a veranda with views of the wetlands in the valley below.
