We didn't think things could get better than Lake Manyara but in hindsight Kleins Camp Serengeti was the BEST of the 5 destinations we visited.
Klein's Camp is unique because it is set in the exclusive private concession deep in the heart of Maasai (tribal) territory, neighboring the northeastern Serengeti National Park.
Being that this is a concession (leased land from the Maasai), Rangers are not held to the strict rules of the national parks.
Klein's Camp is special because the Ranger's can off-road to see the animals. All the Tanzania National Parks require you to stay on the road and sometimes it makes it impossible to get up close to the animals.
At Kleins Camp Serengeti, the Ranger's/Guides drive directly to the animals. You get so close, it is amazing. We saw (up close) leopards, lions (and cubs), cheetah's, buffalo, elephant, giraffe, etc...
Klein's has 10 rooms and they do not disappoint. Each round cottage is made of stone and overlooks the bluff. It comes with an in-room safe, converter, blow dryer, walk-in shower and sitting area.
Even though we were at the beginning of summer, the November nights are cool at Klein's (50's). Our Butler warmed our bed each night with hot water bottles; a nice touch!
The mosquitos/flies seemed better at Klein's - maybe because it is cooler and the altitude is higher.
The staff at Klein's is excellent and the food exceptional. The Chef prepares fresh culinary dishes at each meal. They also do a wonderful job of accommodating special dietary requests.
We stayed 3 nights, which I would recommend as the minimum. We should have stayed 4 or 5 nights.
Klein's has an amazing pool overlooking the bluff which is a nice addition.
The gift shop has a computer to check internet. The crown jewel of the property is the bar/sitting area over-looking the concession below.
I cannot say enough about the game viewing. Kleins Camp Serengeti also has night game drives, which is NOT allowed in any Tanzania National Parks (except Lake Manyara).
At Klein's, there is no fee for the night game drives and they are FUN. We saw a lot of lions in action. One night, we came across a lioness guarding her kill, and soon there were 9 lions eating (and fighting) over the food. They were within 20 feet of our vehicle. Awesome!
The open-air Land Rovers are awesome and allow for excellent viewing and comfort.
Once you arrive, you are assigned a Ranger and Tracker for your entire stay.
Klein's Camp is located on the scenic Kuka Hills of Serengeti, and offers stunning views of the valley where herds of elephant, zebra and wildebeest congregate.
Spread over 10,000 hectares the Klien's Camp is within a private reserve leased from the local Masai tribes people.
The camp is south of Kenya's Masai Mara and east of Serengeti National Park into which tourists are taken on wildlife safari tours. The local people are involved in the eco-tourism initiatives run by Klein's Camp.
The Kleins Camp Serengeti offers one main lodge and 10 cottages made of rock, with thatched roofs. The spacious luxury cottages have stone walls, polished wooden floors, a private terrace, and an ensuite bathroom.
It offers delicious African cuisine with freshly grown herbs and vegetables from the camp's kitchen garden. Dinners are organized in the main dining area, which has a big open fireplace. Camp dinners are also held in near by bush clearings.
The camp has a bar and lounge, a plunge pool, leisure deck and souvenir shop which features Masai handicrafts.
The Camp has extensive library of wildlife books and videos and exciting wildlife safari drives, night safaris, tours to the near by villages and bush breakfasts.
