Kotido is a district in the Northern Region of Uganda. Its named after it's 'chief town', Kotido, where the district headquarters are located.

Location of KotidoKotido is bordered by Kaabong District to the north, Moroto District to the east and south, Abim District to the west, Pader District and Kitgum District to the northwest. The district headquarters at Kotido located approximately 100 kilometres (62 mi), by road, northwest of Moroto, the largest town in the sub-region. The coordinates of the district are:03 31N, 34 07E.Overview of Kotido

The district is part of the Karamoja sub-region, home to an estimated 1.2 million Karimojong. The sub-region consists of the following districts:

•Abim District

•Kaabong District

•Kotido District

•Moroto District

•Nakapiripirit District

Population of Kotido

The national census in 2002 estimated the population of the district at 157,765. The annual population growth rate in Kotido is 3.3%. Using those statistics, it is estimated that in 2009, the population of Kotido is approximately 198,022.

Economic activities in Kotido

Nomadic pastoralism is the main economic activity in the district. In some areas, peasant agriculture is practiced. The crops grown include

•Sorghum

•Maize

•Millet

•Peas

•Beans

•Groundnuts

•Sunflower

•Sweet potatoes.
