Location
Kumi is bordered by Mbale District to the southeast, Sironko District to the east, Nakapiripirit District and Moroto District to the northeast, Katakwi District to the north, Amuria District to the northeast, Soroti District to the west, Pallisa District and Budaka District to the south.
Population
The 2002 national census estimated the population of the district to be 265,488. The annual population growth rate in the district is given as 4.3%. Using those statistics, it is estimated that the district population in 2009 is approximately 356,481
Transport
Kumi District is served by a railway station of the Ugandan Railways.
