La Gemma Dell Est Resort Zanzibar is hotel is absolute paradise! We very much enjoyed our time here, the beach is powder white sands with clear blue seas.
There is also a sea water pool with swim up bar, and snack bar by the pool where you can get snacks all day (this also turns into a pizza restaurant in the evening) Arrival at Zanzibars' airport was relatively easy, we had come prepared with already filled out Visa forms and yellow fever certificates but basically just needed to fill in a landing card and handover $50 and we were on our way. The trip to La Gemma Dell Est Resort Zanzibar is around an hour from the airport on pretty decent roads, one of the first thing you notice is the heat/humidity & greenness of the Island and also the fact that its' very laid back.... 
La Gemma Dell Est Resort Zanzibar is an outstanding resort/hotel spread out over extensive gardens and a fabulous beach/pool complex. One of the great pluses is that you have so much personal space at all times whether its' whilst your eating/drinking or simply soaking up the sun, everything is so well spaced out. Reception at the hotel was very efficient and we were greeted with a fruity cocktail as we filled in the necessary registration forms and were soon on a golf buggy to our room. All the rooms have a magnificent view out to sea across the lovely laid out gardens, the room facilities are pretty good as well with a safe/Tv (9 English channels)/Powerful shower/comfortable bed/outdoor patio area and a fridge which is filled everyday with water, coke, fanta and beer.
The food is plentiful and varied with some live cooking stations, the drinks service is excellent and with a choice of limitless french/south african wines. We also used the Beach facilities for snacks during the day and at night it serves great pizzas and ice cream and with its' location its' really great at night with the cooling coastal breezes. There is also an A La Carte restaurant on the pier but we never used it and most nights it appeared to be very quiet. There are several bars available and the choice of drinks was very good our particular favourites were the pool bar during the day and the one on the pier at night where the evening entertainment occurred Restaurant facilities are also pretty good, the main buffet restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and evening meal is some way from the rooms and you do have a good 5min walk through the gardens up a steady incline. The beach/sea is simply wonderful, there are always plenty of sunbeds available both around the pool or scattered around on the beach under the shade of the local vegetation. La Gemma Dell Est Resort Zanzibar is simply beautiful, the rooms are spacious and have just about every mod con you would need, they are spotlessly cleaned and ours was decorated with flowers every other day. Every room has a sea view and ours probably the best on level three (the top floor). The resort is breathtaking, the sea is clear blue and perfectly safe for swimming and snorkelling, the beach nestles just on the edge of the poolside which was perfect for us. The evening entertainment was really good too, especially as we went out of season and the hotel was barely a third full! We had a guitar vocalist singing from 6pm each evening in the bar by the restaurant until half ten and then down in the main bar which sits over the sea on stilts from ten until midnight was either a disco or live band each night all of which were great!! We went on one excursion to swim with the Dolphins in the sea and the jungle monkey safari, both were exceptional and once again even the locals were friendly and the tour guides very professional and informative. I really can not find one complaint about this resort and would go back in an instant, any one booking this hotel is in for a real treat and I certainly found it up to five star standard for the area. La Gemma Dell Est Resort Zanzibar, is located on the North West coast of Zanzibar, near to Kendwa Rocks, on a magnificent stretch of beach. The beauty of this side of the island is that it is not as affected as the East by the tidal fluctuations. One is able to swim during low and high tide. Even though there is a great beach, the Hotel has built the most massive swimming pool on the island with a sunken bar on the northern end where one is able to enjoy cocktails The hotel has been styled on a modern European style, ignoring the Zanzibar style, in which most other resorts have been built. Large white plastic tarpaulins greet you as you enter the main gate. The restaurant area is beautifully decorated using glass windows and water features, all very chic and modern.
The resort boasts an impressive 138 rooms, including 17 Junior suites, 23 executive villa guest rooms and a presidential villa which consists of 5 bedrooms. All rooms are fitted with French doors which open out on to a landscaped garden. The rooms also have a small balcony where guests can sit and enjoy the view of the ocean. The rooms have all the modern conveniences which include satellite television, air conditioning, ceiling fans, mini bar, safe and telephone. The La Gemma Dell Est Resort Zanzibar has blended the room in a terracota and brown colour scheme. The bathroom includes a great shower, bidet, hair dryer, bath robes and hotel personalised toiletries.
The executive villas also include a personal butler. La Gemma Dell Est Resort Zanzibar only has one restaurant and 3 bars. The restaurant is situated on the hilltop A large entertainment area is built on a pontile out in the ocean. The jetty is just out some 100m into the ocean and provides a stunning place to enjoy cocktails during the day, sundowners at sunset or a late night drink. From the deck in the evening, one can watch the fish swimming in the floodlit ocean.
