Larsens Camp Hotel Samburu is a must if you visit Samburu National Park in Kenya. Great, friendly, personable service, beautiful location, delicious food, lovely, clean and newly renovated tents. Overall, a very luxurious experience. I love camping like this!!

Great Hospitality, lots of wildlife and clean wonderful rooms. The dinning staff have lots of charisma and will charm you. The monkeys running over the tent tops and the sound of the wild animals while sleeping are amazing and make you feel closer to mother nature.

The grounds are beautiful set on the banks of the river with a lovely deck where you can eat lunch outdoors. The entire camp is very well maintained - including a beautiful swimming pool with a gorgeous view. The staff is incredibly helpful and goes out of their way to accommodate anything you may need.

They bring you coffee or hot chocolate with some cookies every morning as your wake up call in your tent - wish i could have that at home :-)

I also felt very safe at Larsens Camp Hotel Samburu - the grounds are surrounded by an electric fence and there are guards patrolling 24/7 for "stray" animals. I've heard that some real nature lovers prefer not to have the electric fence and for things to be more "wild," but I can tell you that I stayed for 4 nights at another camp without the fence and I felt MUCH more comfortable at Larsens.

The tents themselves are very comfortable, well decorated and have an indoor bathroom. They also have electricity in every tent which is a big plus. Click for more information about rates and availability

The vehicles at Larsens Camp Hotel Samburu are great and very open for great game viewing. We had our guide who was a local Samburu tribe member. He was fantastic - had a great eye for viewing game and was really a nice guy and very knowledgeable.

We saw tons of giraffe, a number of Oryx, baboons, Grevy's zebras, one lion (not too many lions in Samburu game reserve), a cheetah with her cub, 2 leopards, a bunch of elephants and buffalo, a couple of crocodiles and hippos, and countless other incredible animals.

Larsens Camp Hotel Samburu also offers the opportunity to visit the local Samburu tribe and I would highly recommend this. It was an amazing experience to see how the tribe lived and to meet the people and the children!

All in all, we highly enjoyed our stay at Larsen's and I would recommend it to anyone...

One more thing - if you stay here, remember to zip your tent up tight when you leave and don't bring food in your tent. There are a bunch of vervet monkeys in and around the camp.

This is very cool to see, but they are also smart little critters. One day, I went outside of my tent on the porch to see the sunrise and when I came back in, I left the bottom portion of my tent open.

I had already eaten my morning cookies, but I left unopened sugar packets out on the chest at the foot of our bed. As I was getting ready, I turned around and found a vervet on the tearing away at the sugar packets!!

If one of your ambitions is to experience the Africa of the turn of the century pioneers, then Larsens Camp Hotel Samburu is the place for you. Located 320 kms north of Nairobi on the border of the old Northern Frontier Province, Larsens is a small, luxurious, tented camp set in lush lawns on the bank of the Uaso Nyiro, a river in Samburu National Reserve.

There are birds and vervet monkeys everywhere and dik diks wander freely around the camp. An animal viewing platform in the trees lets one scan the vast Samburu plain

In the heat of the day one may relax on a private deck while the monkeys play in the trees around you and animals drink from the opposite bank. The camping is high style with casual colonial elegance, hot showers and a surprising degree of comfort.

Toweling gowns are in your tent, the safari chairs have maroon leather seats and a complimentary sherry aperitif is served before dinner from a decanter.

The dining tent is open from three sides and faces the river. A first class dinner is elegantly served by candlelight on tables set with silver and larsens china.
