The food is top quality and the drinks are not as expensive as we expected. The tents are fabulous. Each evening I turned down the cover to find a hot water bottle ready for me. No electricity in the tents of course but en suite showers and the gas lamps are turned on for you before it gets dark. We woke up the first night to find hippos surrounding our tents eating. It was the most amazing sound, like something out of Jurassic park.
At no point did we feel alarmed, even when sitting round the fire after dinner one evening and hearing the lions roaring close by. It all adds to the experience.
Our driver was Fred and had the most extensive knowledge of the reserve and animals.
It rained quite a bit while we were at Little Governors Camp Maasai Mara and the roads practically disappeared, but all of the Governors drivers have a vast deal of experience and really do try their best to see as many animals as possible for you.
There were never any more than 4 of us in the Landrover and for two safaris there were just the two of us and Fred!
Little Governors Camp Maasai Mara has a generator and sockets where you can recharge phones and batteries at certain hours of the day. Also, I highly recommend using the laundry service.
It's extremely cheap and very good. I cannot praise the Staff highly enough either. They can't do enough for you, even the armed guards who walk you backwards and forwards to your tent to make sure the animals stay away.
The camp that Africa aficionados swear by, Little Governors Camp Maasai Mara casts its spell over all who visit, from presidents to honeymooning couples. The tents are tucked away around a large watering-hole that teams with animal and bird life. The traveller from their veranda can view the wild changes daily to either giraffes, lions, elephants or warthogs.
Intimate in character the camp has just 17 tents.
It's a tranquil and secluded spot, to get there you just have to cross the Mara River by boat, then walk escorted armed guards through the forest.
Dawn at Little Governors is the best time to be out on the savannah to catch the game as it wakes.
Leaving a snug bed is never easy so to help you on your very own wake up call we serve a pot of steaming tea or coffee, complete with biscuits.
Come the evening it's time for chilled drinks and tall tales around the blazing camp fire.
Then finally a delicious dinner and a hot water bath to keep you warm in bed.
