We booked two nights in the Lobo Wildlife Lodge Serengeti because we wanted to see the Northern Serengeti and it is the only affordable option in the north.
Our safari company told us ahead of time not to expect luxury accommodation. Luxury was not really our goal, so we were happy to book the lodge for its location and value.
The Lobo Lodge is built into a live rock outcropping that rises out of the plains in the Northern
It is a prime location for views and wildlife and, because it is a quiet, uncrowded lodge, the wildlife is much more prevalent on the grounds than in other places we stayed.
We had a beautiful view from our room and during our stay we saw lots of baboons, vervet monkeys, giraffes, agama lizards, and hyraxes -- all right there at the lodge.
At check-in, we were told to always close and lock our windows because if we didn't, the baboons would enter the room and could cause damage. We thought this was amusing, but we definitely followed the man's advice.
We woke up in the morning to discover that some animal had indeed swung open the screen window to our room. Luckily, the glass panes were closed and locked.
I don't think you would have such a close encounter with wildlife at the more crowded lodges in the Central Serengeti.
I enjoyed the lounge area, with its rock walls, worn tapestry pillows, copper fireplace, and leather chairs. We listened to piano music there every night before dinner.
Lobo Wildlife Lodge Serengeti had the feel of a solid old lodge that had seen a lot of travelers and had lots of stories to tell.
It somehow felt more authentic than some of the other lodges (which were more beautiful, but maybe a bit forced in their safari "look").
Physically the hotel is quite pleasant, built up on different levels.
The bar/dinning room are one large room with a sloping ski-lodge type wooden roof, and views over the Serengeti from the bar. The main bonus point is the the terrace though, and a large kopje next to it, from which there are fantastic views.
Lobo Wildlife Lodge is located in the North of Serengeti National Park, the most spectacular scenario of wildlife in its pure essence. Lobo Wildlife Lodge Serengeti is a dream of romanticism in its remote location, strategically hidden inside an enormous volcanic rocky outcrop.
It is the biggest Lodge on the migration route. You can watch and witness the migration by lying in the pool. Artistically made of wood and glass elements around clusters of large boulders, harmoniously merging with its surroundings.
Lobo is ideally set in the migratory route of over two and a half million of wildebeest in their desperate struggle for survival. It is the first lodge in the way from Kenya to Tanzania, only 28 km from the Masai Mara.
A waterhole below the Lodge attracts a variety of wild visitors during the day and is lit each evening revealing an interesting array of nocturnal animals, providing a close encounter with the very authentic wildlife. All the Lodge's 75 elegant guestrooms afford superb views of this unbelievable natural phenomenon, and the sumptuous swimming pool is situated on the very edge of the rock, offering uninterrupted views of the horizon.
Among the facilities available at Lobo Wildlife Lodge Serengeti is the Fig Tree Restaurant, which perfectly combines the international high standards of hospitality and service with exquisite exotic touches of local lifestyle.
If you want to save some money and see the northern Serengeti, approach this lodge with the right expectations and I don't think you'll be uncomfortable here.
