Mapenzi Beach Club Hotel Zanzibar is located on the north-eastern side of Zanzibar on a great stretch of beach. There are several advantages to staying here.

Firstly, Mapenzi offers an all-inclusive rate (one of the few on Zanzibar not solely targeted at the Italian market).

Since all your meals, drinks (including alcohol) and selected water sports are included in their rate, you don't have to spend your holiday worrying about the bill at the end.

Secondly, Mapenzi is located some distance away from the other hotels in this area so you are able to enjoy a long stretch of palm-fringed beach shared only with the local fishermen bicycling past.

Thirdly, Mapenzi offers a programme of activities and entertainment so you never have to worry about being bored in paradise.

And there are many ways to work off any over-indulgences at the buffet table - water sports, swimming pool, aerobics and beach games. But do save some energy (and that little black dress) for the disco at night.

Built in traditional Zanzibari style, with a huge thatched makuti (palm-thatch) roof and coral walls, Mapenzi Beach Club Hotel Zanzibar is an enormous hotel spread out on a sloping hill.

The gardens are lush, full of tall palm trees and vibrant bougainvillea. The rooms are very comfortable and the food is fantastic.

If you want to be right on the beach, i suggest booking a seafront cottage in the first row. If these aren’t available, the next row along offers slithers of a sea view through the palm trees.

I highly recommend Mapenzi Beach Club, especially if you're looking for an all-inclusive package holiday where everything is arranged for you.

At Mapenzi Beach Club Hotel Zanzibar there are 87 bungalows divided into three categories: garden-view, standard or seafront rooms. Rooms are similar in size and décor.

The closer you are to the beach, the further you are from the lodge restaurant and pool.

If you can afford it, the first row of seafront rooms are excellent. These are located right on the beach, so you step out of your room and onto the sand.

Family accommodation is also offered in the stamdard rooms, which have two rooms connected by an interleading door.

These rooms are all located at the front of the beachfront and the rooms can accommodate five people. For families looking for the best value for money, these rooms are ideal.

The standard rooms are situated behind the seafront rooms and offer partial sea views through the palm trees.

The garden rooms, set in beautifully lush greenery at the back of the resort offer the best value for money.

All the rooms are attractively decorated with carved beds and doors and mozzie nets over the beds.

They are extremely comfortable and have verandas. Each room has en-suite facilities with hot water, a hairdryer, air conditioning, ceiling fan, telephone and safe deposit box.

The open-air dining room has views of the ocean. It is situated on an elevated platform, which feels almost like the bow of a ship.

The interior is attractive with wooden chairs and tables adorned with colourful flowers picked from the verdant gardens. Here you can enjoy a combination of international and local cuisine.

There's a Beach Bar which serves drinks and a Pool Bar for snacks and cakes during the day. In the evenings you can enjoy a variety of leisurely cocktails before or after dinner at the Pool Bar.
