Mara Intrepids Hotel in Masai Mara
The Mara Intrepids Hotel camp is luxury.. I couldn't understand how you could use that description about a tent, but that is the only way to describe it. It is a luxuriously furnished room but with canvas sides and a zip for your front door. The windows are canvas net (so can be chilly if the wind blows) but the magical sounds you hear at night are amazing Luxurious tents and accommodation, without being over the top and too perfect.
 | The tents have been done up, and look good. They are on raised platforms, located in clusters of 4’s. Each tent has a deck overlooking the Talek River (we had a male hippo in a pool in the river in front of our tents. The river levels are low). Each deck has 2 safari chairs and coffee tables. The tents have a traditional zipped entrance. Inside you will find a cupboard meant to house a mini fridge (our cupboard was empty), either a double bed, or 2 singles, a writing desk and chair, a dressing table with a stool, a wardrobe, and 2 luggage stands. There is plenty of space to keep clothes, etc. The bed was comfortable, with blankets (not duvets), and is a four poster bed draped in mosquito nets.
The bathroom is part of the bedroom, with a twin vanity in the middle. On one side is a toilet (behind a door), and the other side an enclosed shower with a rain shower head. Hot water is available from 5:30 am – 8:30 am, and 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm. It is heated by wood. What a fabulous resort! The tents were outstanding! I won't camping in a regular old tent anymore. These tents had hardwood floors, four poster beds, beautiful shower stalls, and granite countertops.
They turned down your bed at night, put in a hot water bottle while you were at dinner and woke you up in the morning with coffee/tea and cookies! Truly felt spoiled. The wildlife outside the resort is amazing. We saw an abundance of wildlife - so many different varieties. The shower/bathroom area has to be seen to be believed. Hot water is available from approx 5am-9am and 5pm-9pm, and the electricity is only switched off at midnight to 5am (there is a torch in your tent in case you have to get up in the night).
The service is wonderful (hot water bottles put in your bed while you're having dinner and hot chocolate brought to your tent to wake you in the morning!), and the staff are extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The food was wonderful, and the restaurant is completely in keeping with the surroundings. No doors or windows, built entirely in wood, with bush babies fighting in the rafters! There is no need to dress up. The Mara Intrepids Hotel can get cold in the evenings, so something warm is more important. On the game drives my fears of a 'safari park' experience, crammed into a mini bus and unable to see anything were completely unfounded. We were in an open sided jeep, driven by a very experienced ranger, and we were teamed up with 2 wonderful ladies from San Fransisco who just made our stay all the more perfect. From the time we landed at Mara Intrepids Hotel to the time we left we were treated like royalty with genuine warmth that we found to be quite infectious. We were put in on of the new tents and they are fantastic with a view over the Mara River.Click here for more information about booking and rates of this lodge in Kenya
Cats were the main reason i chose the Mara Intrepids Hotel and not only did we see them but we sat amongst them as if we were part of the family with Cheetahs circling our jeep , a leopard sitting in a tree just above our heads, spending time with a fully grown lion and his 4 females sunbathing on their backs whilst we sat within touching distance of them . WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!These were just a few of the times we sat with the Cats and it made us feel quite emotional to realise one of our ambitions. All in all we saw the big 5 , family of elephants playing with the baby ones in the mud etc. I could go on and on as every time we went on a drive we were treated to something special! So please you should think of visiting Mara Intrepids Hotel in Masai Mara and live to tell your story of this fabulous place in Kenya.
