Wow.. What a great lodge!! We had the time of our lives staying here in Mara Serena Safari Lodge . The view from the rooms is excellent, you can see the vast African plains and with a binocular spot lots of animals right from the room. The decoration in the rooms also has a lot of character and is tastefully done.
The Serena are probably the best lodges in Kenya, you do get a better atmosphere (and more of a safari feel) at some of the smaller tented camps where the service can also be a lot more personal, but these tend to be more expensive. But for lodges Serena is the way to go.Mara Serena Safari Lodge is an amazing property. It is located at the heart of the Masai Mara and right next to the Mara River.
The hotel is on a hilltop and all the rooms are perched on 2 ridges (going in opposite directions) so all rooms have a view down the hill to the Savannah below.
From your room you can see elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and more... all far below munching across the plain. During my stay, a pride of lions even passed below the hotel with a kill allowing quite exciting viewing from the pool area.
The park has abundant wildlife so you see animals all the time both from the hotel looking down, and on your game drive. I saw lions dozens of times, same with elephants, zebras, a variety of gazelle and waterbuck, birds, buffulo, giraffes, cheetahs and more. I even saw two rhino's which is a bit rarer I think.
The property is well equipped. There is a small spa which offers all the regular treatments - massage, facial, manicure, and pedicure. There is a nice pool area overlooking the Savannah (as mentioned) with loungers. There is a bar area also with a good view. There is a shop with some tourist items including souvenirs and overly priced sunscreen etc.
The staff are friendly (it's Kenya so they always are) and the service is good. The rooms are clean and have large windows which fully take advantage of the views, although the rooms are not huge. The food is a buffet and generally pretty good, and the prices for drinks are reasonable.Click here for Rates and Bookings
The ambiance at the lodge is also excellent and the staff is attentive and personable. Also, the lodge is in a very good location and you can see lots of animals with in short drive from the lodge. We also did a night safari that the lodge offers, but did not think it was worth it.
Perched on a ridge high above the Mara plains the astonishing views stretch for miles, visible from every one of of the hotel rooms. They are spacious and very comfortable, brightly decorated with Masai embellishments on the mirrors and a place to sit and gaze.
The restaurant provides such a huge choice of food even the fussiest eaters should be happy. But it is the game drives that take the Serena Mara way beyond excellent. We loved being in those big open topped, open sided vehicles and we saw everything we could have hoped for,
