Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp Serengeti

Travel Business

SBI!

It was just on sunset as we drove into Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp Serengeti and we thought we had seen all our animals for the day when up in a tree on the side of the road we spotted a Leopard. So, we were on a high when we arrived at Mbuze Mawe.

This tented camp is an unexpected piece of luxury in the wilds of Africa. We were greeted in the carpark and escorted up a stone path to the main lodge.

Here we were welcomed by a colourful group of musicians, giving an authentic African touch (this entertainment was held nightly). For more information about Mbuzi mawe camp in Serengeti, here is the short cut

This area had plenty of lounges for relaxing with a sundowner and a little shop for those extra souvenirs (they even post your postcards).

There is also outside seating with a wonderful view over the Serengeti landscape and a free internet service.

After a long drive from Arusha, it was exactly what we needed. We were shown to our huge tent which overlooked the bush and was quite private, having its own little path.

It had its own deck overlooking a grassy plain, complete with sunlounge and other seating. Inside were two 4-poster Queensize beds, a small lounge area and dresser.

There was also a separate and spacious bathroom with double basins, two luggage racks and large bench with plenty of power points for charging our cameras etc.

It was much more luxurious than we had expected. And we found it amusing that we had to padlock our tents at night so the baboons didn't break in.

Dinner was held in a tented dining room with impeccable smiling waiter service. There was plenty to choose from on the menu and the food was excellent.

For breakfast there was the same smiling service, with choices from a hot menu and a buffet of everything else.

There was also the opportunity to get a massage in our tent and an inexpensive laundry service, which we were grateful to take advantage of.

During the night on our second day we even had a lion roaring outside our tent. This was a fantastic albeit chilling experience and completely satisfied our reasons for staying in this type of accommodation.

We also now understood why we were escorted around the grounds by armed security. The next morning there were a group of water buffalo in the grassy area. We had the feeling that we were truly on Safari.

Each day we would rise to our hearty breakfasts, spend the whole day out in a different part of the Serengeti with our safari guide (picnic lunch supplied by the lodge).

We would return at sunset to our luxurious tent, and shower before going up to the main tent for sundowners and entertainment prior to dinner.

As we left on our last day, just as we drove away from Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp Serengeti, we spotted a Cheetah right beside the road. We watched him for more than an hour, again in complete privacy. Imagine our excitement!!!!!
