Population
During the 2002 national census, the district had a population of 269,763. It is estimated that in 2009, the population of Mityana is approximately 345,328.
Economic Activity
Agriculture is the main income-earning activity in the district. Like Mubende District, from which Mityana District was split, the crops grown include:
•Sweet potatos•Beans•Cassava•Maize•Bananas•Groundnuts•Onions•Cabbage•Tomatoes
Cash crops grown in the district include:
•Coffee•Tea
There are several large-scale tea estates in the district, including Namutamba Tea Estate, located at Namutamba, and Mwera Tea Estate, located at Mwera and a member of the Madhvani Group.
