Mpigi is a district in central Uganda. Like other Ugandan districts, it is named after its 'chief town', Mpigi. The district headquarters are located in the town of Mpigi, approximately 35 kilometres (22 mi) west of the capital city, Kampala.

Location
Mpigi is bordered by Wakiso District to the east, Kalangala District and Masaka District to the south, Sembabule District to the southwest, Mubende District to the northwest and Mityana District to the north. The coordinates of the district are: 00 05N, 32 00E. The district has a total area of 3,714.94 square kilometres (1,434.35 sq mi).
Population
The population of Mpigi, as of the 2002 Population and Housing Census, was 407,790. The district is primarily a rural district, with only 8.4% of the population living in urban areas. The population growth in Uganda over last decade has averaged 3.2%using those statistics; the population of Mpigi is estimated to be 508,388 as of April 2009.
