Mpigi is a small but important transit town located approximately 37 kilometres (23 mi) west of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city, on the highway to Masaka.
The coordinates of the town are: 00° 13' 23" North and 32° 19' 28" East.(Latitude:0.2230; Longitude:32.3245).
It is an important trading centre that connects the counties of Mawokota, Busiro, Kyaddondo, Butambala, Gomba and Busujju in Mityana District.
It also links with Mawogola and Ssembabule Counties (Lwemiyaga and Ssembabule Districts) and through its geographical location, provides access and connection to Entebbe Airport and Pier via Butebo port to Ssese and other islands in Lake Victoria through various Fishing Landing Sites.
Within its central area of Mbale Hill, lies one Buganda's most renowned Mythical Legends or traditional gods of the Baganda people,"Kibuuka Omumbaale" and the Ancestral Home of the "Ndiga" (Sheep) Clan.
