Ngorongoro Farm House
If you haven't been to Ngorongoro Farm House Lodge , this is the your chance to know what is taking place at this lodge in Tanzania .We are giving you the account of our vacation at this lodge so as to guide you on your next visit or vacation in Ngorongoro or Serengeti national Park. At Ngorongoro Farm House We were greeted with the traditional welcome drink of lemongrass tea amongst an amazing lush green garden full of flowers. The main lodge is a dramatic building with a thatched roof overlooking the farm.
Porters waited while we completed our paperwork and then led us down a long pathway through the coffee plants to our room 'Ilamba' (meaning crocodile).
It was a long way from the main building and very peaceful amongst the trees.
It was huge and very clean with a 4-poster kingsize bed and mosquito net, lounge and a veranda looking out over the farm facing the sunset.
Best of all was the shower. It was big and old fashioned with lots of hot water.
After our shower we returned to the main lodge where we had a drink on the massive deck.
Two fires were burning in the fire pits and we sat watching the flames. A local village family came and played music and danced to entertain us. It was a wonderful atmosphere with a true African feel.
When they had finished we went in for a buffet-style dinner, which was very good. We were impressed that our safari driver/guide was able to eat with us and we chatted about our day's adventure over dinner.
Breakfast was equally as good. It was a shame that this was just an overnight stay. We had enjoyed the warm hospitality and it had been worth the long drive to have this experience.
The only drawback is that Ngorongoro Farm House is a long way from Ngorongoro Crater itself and if that is why you are staying here, then be ready for a long drive.
However, even people staying closer to the Crater have to put up with the treacherous nightmare of the descent road. Be prepared!!!!
In the Crater the scenery is amazing. But, after being out in the isolation of the Serengeti for a few days, we found the crater very busy with other cars - to us it was a bit touristy.
The accommodation was superb and the food amazing. The staff were courteous and friendly.
The room we stayed in offered as much space as we could possibly need, was clean and tidy and the bath was like a swimming pool!
The gardens and surrounding area are beautiful and it was a perfect location for our trip out to the crater.
The whole place is peaceful and tranquil and we would highly recommend it.
Ngorongoro Farm house Lodge has the feel of a farmhouse as one arrives at the lodge, they are greeted with large, open grassy lawns which stretch across to the main areas.
It has 51 rooms (big by the usual standards), although when you're there, it feels much, much smaller.
This is because the lodge is effectively divided into two parts each with its own communal bar and lounge area, and set of rooms.
Each lounge and bar area is set in a large farmhouse style building with a high thatch roof, russet red stone floors, and white-washed walls.
To one side of this building is a large swimming pool, and to the other is a wide sun deck from where one can watch the sun set in the evenings.
At Ngorongoro Farm House Lodge ,the bedrooms are scattered through pretty gardens dotted with colourful flower beds.
In front of the rooms is a long stone pathway which leads back to the main areas, then the back of the rooms face onto the open fields of farmland.
The rooms are neat and spacious, the furniture and soft furnishings are simple yet very effectively put together. The result is natural, stylish and very comfortable.
While based at Ngorongoro Farm house Lodge, one can explore both Lake Manyara National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. If the traveller would like to spend a morning or an afternoon at the lodge, one can head out on a nature walk around the farm or indulge in a massage at the 'spa'.
