Ngorongoro Serena Lodge is visually impressive as is the standard of accommodation and the quality of the food, in other words it is typical of a Serena property.

On arrival knowing that this property is perched on the Crater rim we asked for a room on the top floor with a good view.

This Hotel has 2 accommodation wings, each of them 2 levels. One wing is considerably higher than the other.

The reception staff fiddled around with the bookings for a few minutes & said they had given us one of the best rooms in the Hotel.

They were not kidding, on the upper most level right next to the Hotels Luxury Suite & with a glorious view over virtually the whole of the Crater.

It really does pay to ask for that view anywhere, if you don’t you probably won’t get it and if you do you might be lucky as we were.

The room location makes such a difference to your outlook at this Hotel.

We could see that some rooms particularly on the lower floor of the wing that was further down the hill would just look out at some trees and that would be it.

To sum up a reliable mid range property with no major flaws, just make sure you get that “room with a view” Oh, and if you can only go to one wildlife viewing area in Tanzania this is the one to go to.

Strung around the crater rim, each with its own rock-enclosed balcony, the rooms feature brass lamps, embossed leather headboards, wildwood mirrors, Maasai carvings and flamboyant prehistoric wall motifs depicting fleeing giraffes, stylised gazelle and plunging buffalo.
