Palace Hotel Lamu Island is indeed a very special place, a small Arab town with narrow streets where fully laden donkeys form the traffic. From the terrace of the hotel you see the swahili women in black buibuis and men in traditional cloth pass by.

This fairly large new hotel on the waterfront is moderately priced. It seems rather disconnected from the rest of the town, downtown. It has been decorated in the typical Lamu style and has a restaurant with an extensive menu. infront of Palace Hotel Lamu Island in Kenya standing in Indian Ocean

You are a short dhow ride away from Manda Beach, which is opposite Shela beach, which the closest swimming beach to Lamu Town and exclusively for Lamu Palace clients. They prepare your lunch and drinks and send it across to Manda for you to enjoy on their hang-mat-beds, this is very unique and are totally isolated from crowds. The hotel is located in the main street in Lamu. Founded in the 7th century, Lamu still reflects the picture of the typical Arabic dhow port, with its 18th century stone houses and narrow streets with no other traffic than almost 4,000 donkeys. Lamu is the starting point for the famous island hipping trips to Pate or Manda Island with its enormous white sandy beaches and ancient town.

There are 22 luxury double rooms and 3 suites. All rooms are air-conditioned (and a ceiling fan for your preference) and has a constant supply of hot and cold water.

All rooms have Lamu style furniture, richly carved to display traditional Arabesque architecture and culture.

There are comfortable beds with orthopedic mattresses while painted on the wall above are the Swahili goodnight wishes --"Lala Salama" (Sleep Well).

The rooftop Sun Parlor is partly covered under which are Swahili beds (complete with orthopedic mattresses) scattered with colorful cushions. It offers a fantastic view over the island and sea.
