Richards Camp Maasai Mara is superb. What could be better than eating outside, under the stars, listening to the sounds of the animals as they make their way out to hunt?
Waking up at 2am to hear hippos munching grass at the edge of camp, perhaps. Having sundowners in our Land Rover as a storm swept across the plains.
Sitting around Richard's cozy log fire at night listening to his hilarious stories after a fantastic meal of Roast Lamb and all the trimmings.
Richards Camp Maasai Mara was originally a family camp but it has since been converted into a small and exclusive tented camp since the year 2000.
The pioneer of this camp, Richard, started it while carrying out conservation work in the Mara, and has extensive knowledge of wildlife, flora and fauna having grown up and lived in the Masai Mara for more than 20 years.
The camp is located on the edge of a beautiful forest in the Masai Mara conservation area and has six comfortable and individuallydecorated ensuite tents.
Accommodation is in six spacious en suite tents with a verandah, both doubles and twins and triple accommodation available for families. Guests can relax from the day's activities by indulging in a Victorian pool situated inside the forest.Guided bush walks, bush meals, sundowners, cultural visits, night game drives are just a few of the activities that guests can participate in.
Unlike most of the camps in the place, Richards Camp Maasai Mara is open all year round thus providing a perfect place for the guests to stay while on visit any time of the year.
Most of the time, the meals are taken outside under Kenya skies when the weather permits but on those rare rainy and chilly evenings, guests dine inside in a cozy sitting room.
