The animals can come wondering in of night so the staff escort you back to your room. On both nights we had elephants outside our room feeding!!! Brilliant.

The park itself has an excellent amount of wildlife. We saw Leopard, Lions, Zebra, Elephants, Giraffe, Buffalo and all kinds of species of antelope.Click for more information about this hotel in Nakuru Kenyaamps.

Can I just say that this is an absolutely wonderful place to relax and unwind? The staff here was wonderful and attentive. The rooms and beds are spacious and very comfortable and very clean. I couldn't fault the food which was plentiful and delicious.

If you do go, book directly with the lodge and go on game drives on their vehicles as we had the vehicle; Toyota landcruiser with top canopy, to ourselves for all 8 game drives whilst others from tour companies were stuffed into little minibuses arranged by the companies.

You will NOT regret coming to Samburu Game Lodge. We loved it and we can't wait to return. Oh and sometimes the monkeys are very naughty but a Samburu tribesman with a very good sling shot (no animals were hurt) is on hand at all meal times.

It was great to be able to see the crocodiles so close up and also watch them lazying in the river whilst having a cup of tea.

The pool was very refreshing after our morning drive and before our afternoon drive. We saw oodles of elephants and bucks. There were some Hippo in one pool and lots of crocs around the rivers.

Samburu Lodge was opened in July 13, 1963, and is set in a rugged landscape with a backdrop of jagged mountains and its own indigenous wildlife unique to the northern region of Samburu Reserve.<

The landscape, wildlife and vegetation are very different to the lush rolling grasslands of other parks. Samburu Kenya is a place for leopard, lion, elephant and crocodile. It is the place of the semi-nomadic Samburu tribe. A place of thorn bush open plains and vast horizons.

It gives you a taste of the romance of the African desert in Kenya. Beautifully situated on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, everything at Samburu is geared to making the most of the lodge's spectacular setting.Check rates and availability of this hotel here

The Samburu National Reserve, conjoined with the smaller but no less attractive Buffalo Springs Reserve, lies a mere 320 kilometres from Nairobi..

The sun baked landscape is breathtaking with surrounding mountains shimmering on the horizon as temperatures rise. To the west, the sheer sided slopes of majestic Ol Olokwe Mountain form a perfect back drop to any photograph.

Cleaving the two reserves, the Uaso Nyiro River (Brown river in the local language) winds through a mature stands of Newtonia and Sycamore Fig trees, Acacia and Doum Palms, one of the few branching palms to be found anywhere in the world.

Large herds of elephant are seen along the river’s banks which are much favoured by crocodiles and there are sightings of lion, cheetah, leopard and much else besides.

Bird life abounds, a seeming anomaly given the harsh climate, but then nature in the wild is always full of delightful surprises.
