Serena Beach Hotel Spa Mombasa is the African continent's finest resort, and has the distinction of being a member of the Leading Hotels Of The World. Mombasa Serena Beach Hotel offers consummate standards of accommodations, service, cuisine and amenities.
With the white sands and blue waters of the Indian Ocean stretching before it. It is set in green gardens, which are shaded by gently swaying palm trees; this hotel represents the ultimate escape for anybody thinking about vacation in Kenya and Africa in general.
People say the south beach of Mombasa is better, but having nothing to compare the north beach to I was extremely happy. When the tide was in it was perfect for swimming and floating and doing water sports. When the tide was out it was ideal for beach walks and spotting Zebra crabs and schools of fish trapped pools in the rocks.
The grounds are extremely well equipped with tennis courts, squash courts, ping pong, pool table, swimming pool, kiddie pool, hot tub, ice cream cafe, poolside (and swim up) bar, main restaurant, and a very deluxe seafood restaurant. There is also minibars and 24/7 room service.
The Maisha spa was the most amazing. The facility is top of the line complete with a separate area for yoga with a suspended platform above calm running water. Each treatment room has a private outdoor garden with a lush shower in case your treatment calls for you to wash off.
Additionally there is the ladies only (and I assume men only) change area with a private hot tub, steam room, dry heat room, showers (with cascading centre-shower nozzles), etc etc etc. I enjoyed a pedicure, manicure, and a massage. I could have just done an entire weekend at the spa had if i could manage.
I was on a half-board setup and the buffets for breakfast and dinner were extensive and delicious. At dinner there was also some nice calm live music.
There are camels on the beach during my stay and I took a nice ride. Additionally there are a lot of beach sellers with little crafts. There is also a gift shop at the hotel.
Outside Serena Beach Hotel Spa Mombasa there is a strip (within a few hundred metres) of tourist-aimed shops and services. This includes beauty services (want braids?) and massage, tourist shops, and a few bars. Click here for more information about Booking and Rates of this Hotel in Kenya
Serena Beach Hotel Spa Mombasa is located about 20-30 minutes from downtown Mombasa. I enjoyed taking the free shuttle into town for a morning of exploring. I saw fort Jesus and also the old town area and really enjoyed it.
However I was the only one at the hotel that was using this option (free shuttle to town). I do think it's a good idea though to get out and see a bit of Mombasa. If you do go to Mombasa I recommend orienting yourself to walk down to Fort Jesus where you can tour the fort, and then hire a guide to give you a tour of old town.
All in all I think Serena Beach Hotel Spa Mombasa offers something for everyone - adventure/culture? yes. Children? yes. Singles (me)? yes. Couples/Romantic? yes. Older couples? yes!
