The common areas of this lodge are really nice! There are many covered lounging areas that are just wonderful to sit and relax. There are even a few outlets, so if you bring your laptop, you can plug in.
It was nice to come back and take a look at all the great photos we got each day, while having a glass of wine or a beer and munch on the finger foods they set out each evening before dinner!
The setting by the pool just off the river is wonderful!Samburu is definitely a unique park, the scenery is very lovely and the special species of giraffe and zebra are an added bonus. We also loved seeing the gerenuks, which we saw nowhere else.
Serena Lodge Samburu, located in Samburu Game Reserve is one of the established lodges in the rugged game reserve. As for all serena lodges, this property is designed to be Eco-friendly and utilizes tribal design themes, in this case fashioned on Samburu traditional building styles and decor.
The lodge is airy and well laid out, with colourful decor and African artefacts welcoming guests as they enter the lodge. The main dining area, part of it outdoors, offers views of the nearby Uaso Nyiro river which flows through the park.
The rooms at Serena Lodge Samburu are welcoming and colourful, housed in the chalet type shingled buildings of the lodge which blend into the surrounding acacia trees.
There's a bar and dining area which overlooks the flood-lit expanses of the river and game viewing arena where herds of elephant gather nightly and leopards are lured towards a tree near the lodge using pieces of meat, as bait, so that guests may get a closer view of this shy animal.
Menus in the Serena Lodge Samburu are created to feature traditional Kenya bush barbecues, spicy ethnic cuisine and internationally-themed favourites.
Overlooking the outdoor swimming pool and the meandering Uaso Nyiro River, the open air dining room serves guests sumptuous international menus, buffets and barbecues alongside authentic African dishes. The gracious dining and lounge areas are enhanced by Samburu details and murals depicting local nature.
The Kiboko Bar - located next to the dining room - serves fresh fruit juices, soft drinks, tea and coffee, cocktails, wines, spirits and liqueurs. The Pool Bar, with upper and lower terraces, offers the same drink selections.
The undisturbed wilderness of the Samburu Game Reserve is an austere semi-desert of thornbush flats, dry grassland and open acacia woodland.
This rugged landscape is the home of several rare species of birds and animals including the exotic reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, the gerenuk (a gazelle that stands up on its hind legs), Grevy's zebra, the blue-flushed Somali ostrich and the bristle-crowned starling.
The Lodge's experienced safari leaders will also track the more common African animals like lesser kudus, elephants, lions, cheetahs and leopards.
The languid Uaso Nyiro River which stretches at a safe distance in front of the lodge is home to many Nile Crocodiles which can reach up to twelve feet long. No trip to the Samburu lodge would be complete without a visit to the hippo pools where large numbers of these enormous creatures wallow in the cooling muds of the River.
Leopard can frequently be seen from the Lodge. The lodge has three landcruisers which can seat 7 persons each. Game drives across the plains of the Samburu Game Reserve and along the Uaso Nyiro river are scheduled daily.
