You will really enjoy your stay at the Serena Safari Lodge Amboseli. As you arrived via Air Kenya extremely early in the morning (flight from Nairobi). Serena is waiting for you when the plane touched down and you got to see animals right away as you drove from the airplane to the lodge.
Upon arrival I was greeted with champagne to "brighten the morning" and an extensive buffet complete with everying I imagine you could want - even fine cheeses and fresh croissants (what I wanted).
Our driver for the game drives did a lovely job of giving us information, allowing us to take photos, pursuing the animals we wanted to see, and taking time to just let us chat. It was especially nice that there were only 4 of us in the big landcruiser so everyone got a window and lots of space for viewing.
Further excellent experiences included a bush bbq (an elephant walked by only metres away during my 7 course dinner!), a nature walk, and a cultural talk. The room was perfectly clean and comfortable and charming.
I would call it 5 African stars because it was lovely and luxurious in everyway - but don't expect the Sheraton standard here. The staffs were noticeably service oriented with friendly greetings recieved from everyone every time I saw them.
In between "all you can eat" delux buffets, there are designer coffee drinks to be had on the terrace while watching a herd of zebra nearby, or cocktails if that is more your style. The availability of wildlife was extensive and notably I had the most amazing Hippo experiences of my entire Kenyan travels (including several other Kenyan parks).
Also though there were lions, giraffes, elephants, ostriches, etc etc. The real treat is after dark when herds of zebra and wildebeast come to spend the evening right on the other side of the stone wall, just metres from where you have dinner! Oh and also, there is a nice spa if that is of interest for a massage or facial (etc).
I would not say my stay was relaxing as I was always busy. I only visited for a weekend so I was determined to get in all I could. However the atmosphere WAS relaxing and I ended up quite rejuvinated and energized.
Amboseli is the place to see elephants - there are literally hundreds of them, and there is a lake where you can watch them bathing, wading etc.
There are the other usual animals as well of course, and lots of them, but it's the elephants that make Amboseli so special. Click here for more information about Safari Lodge Amboseli National Park in Kenya
