Within an hour drive from Mombasa, Shimba Hills Lodge in Aberdare is a unique opportunity to experience a short safari. Though the nearby reserve will not display unique animals, still it cures the city boredom that you can only spot here.The lodge is accessed after a drive in the forest and a walk downhill from the car park. It is not accessible to wheel chair for disabled people.

This lodge is totally built in timber in the trees and blends perfectly with the surroundings.Imagine yourself in the dining room for meals, speaking in a subdued tone of voice in order not to frighten animals that come to drink at the water hole.

The Location and design of the Lodge are what makes it stand out from others. The Lodge is very clean with friendly staff. Colobus monkeys, fish eagles, elephants, bush babies and lots more abundant here.

You can feed the bush babies by hand in fact one had a saucer of tea on my balcony! If you have the time this lodge is not to be missed. The accommodation overlooks a large water hole and the rooms are simple but comfortable, the bathrooms are shared but hey how much luxury do you want for a night away in the bush. Try it, you will not be disappointed.
