Tarangire Safari Lodge

Travel Business

SBI!

We enjoyed our stay at Tarangire Safari Lodge and agree that it's location inside the Tarangire National Park high above a sweeping River Bend is unbeatable.

Some other more upmarket lodges in the area are more than half an hour from the entry to the Tarangire NP and you have to factor that into your choice of accommodation here.

The reception & bar area, open all along the frontage provides an absolutely stunning panorama at first sight.

Tarangire Safari Lodge is a stone building with a lot of comfy sofas & chairs to relax on. You step down from this to a Restaurant on a lower level in the same building.

Outside this building is a stone paved terrace with seats sporadically placed around it and a fireplace sunken into the paving off to one side.

The views from this Terrace down into the river below and the sight of countless Elephants frolicking in the River and on the river bank is a sight we will never forget.

The tents which are the main accommodation here are along paths in either direction from the main building along the hilltop. It appeared that all tents had views of the river valley below.

The tents have been there for a while but are comfortable & have mostly what you require in them. The beds are not large but they are actually quite comfortable.

The shower is good with good pressure & plenty of hot water. There is nowhere in the tents to re-charge any batteries but around the outside wall of the Restaurant there are several power points where we charged batteries.

Tarangire Safari Lodge Restaurant serves tasty meals, mostly a la carte for Dinner & a Buffet lunch. Service is excellent & personal with one of the waiters referring to me by name each time which makes you feel special

This lodge received some flack a few years ago in 2005 when a French tourists son was taken from the terrace in front of the Restaurant by a Leopard & killed.

This leopard had visited each Wednesday & Saturday evening at Barbeque Dinner time & had been a good draw card for the tourists. The Leopard was hunted down and shot by Lodge staff.

This extremely unfortunate & sad situation really brings it home that you are in Africa where wild Animals roam & you really do have to be aware at all times.

Having said that we did not feel unsafe here even walking to the tent after dark , there were plenty of night watchmen on hand to see that you were OK.

watching wildlife at Tarangire Safari Lodge

To sum up this is the sort of place that is quite Luxurious but a place where we felt very comfortable in and we would return in a heartbeat! Tarangire is a park that is sometimes overlooked and in our opinion it would be a shame to do this.

By staying at Tarangire Safari Lodge you do not have to travel to the NP as you are already in it & this maximises you wildlife viewing time.

Tarangire Safari lodge is located in Tarangire National Park, and provides one of the best views of wildlife as it is just next to Tarangire river, which attracts impressive numbers and variety of game.

The lodge has luxury twin tents which combine the authentic safari atmosphere of ‘nights under canvas’, with more modern comforts of electric light and en suite bathrooms with hot water.

There are also bungalows that provide the space and convenience of solid walls yet blend into their surroundings by using local stone and echoing the traditional round Maasai huts.

At the heart of the lodge are the impressively high thatched roofs of the lounge and dining room. The open sided design allows an uninterrupted view of the landscape and wildlife below, and captures the cooling breeze while you dine on delicious home cooked safari cuisine.

The lounge area has oversized armchairs made from old Zanzibari dhow boats, which make a perfect place to relax in the evenings. Those wanting something a bit more active can take a dip in the pool or a bird walk around the lodge grounds.
