Tarangire Sopa Lodge is a good lodge in a fantastic location with outstanding service.First off, the location is amazing--while not as picturesque as Ngorongoro or Manyara, we had some of our best wildlife viewing in Tarangire, including dozens of elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and even a leopard on our final day.
Also outstanding is the Sopa's main building, which has a sitting area with a spectacular view, the perfect place to watch the sun set/rise prior to meals.
And lastly, the food is pretty much par for the course; no matter where we stayed on our trip, we pretty much had the same items and quality, which is to say very good hotel/buffet items, but nothing that is going to make you think you're in San Francisco or Paris.
The rooms themselves have furniture that is a bit dated, but they are very comfortable and quite spacious. We had a balcony overlooking the pool, where we could watch velvet monkeys playing in the trees.
The main lobby, dining area, and lounge of the lodge had great safari atmosphere and seemed much more updated than the rooms. The dining room has a beautiful panoramic view over the plains and Tarangire hill.
The food was delicious and the service couldn't have been better. Our waiter even memorized our names, and knew who we were each day when we came in.
I also loved the large population of red-headed agama lizards, birds, and hyraxes that lived at the Sopa Lodge.
