Tarangire Treetops Lodge

Safaris and Accommodations at Tarangire Treetops Lodge in Tanzania

Tarangire Treetops Lodge?, What a place to start our safari adventure. We didn't know what to expect when we were told we would be sleeping in tents on treetops.

Roughing it? No way! It was a most exciting beginning to our 6-day safari adventure that would take us from the Tarangire, the Manyara Lakes, Ngorongoro Crater to finally end up in the Serengeti National Park.

As an introduction to Treetop, we were welcomed by Masai people in front of the lodge followed by staff with hot towels and cool juices.

We were then invited to go for a swim and relax while staff prepared our picnic for a sundowner, a game-drive which takes you to the top of a hill where, with a beautifully prepared lunch, a glass of wine or a cold beer, you get to watch the sun set and the star rise over the Tarangire Plains.

On the way we saw several giraffes, impellas and other wild animals but our biggest thrill was to watch, from the top of the hill, the migration of cape-buffalos, who were being followed by a group of hyaenas. Naturally we drove down the hill and followed them for a while and that was how our safari vacation started!

Tarangire Treetops Lodge has separate, somewhat isolated, one-room tents that are beautifully decorated, with fully equiped bathrooms and solar-heated hot water for your showers. Our tent, which stood on stilts, had a great balcony where you could sit at night and gaze at the zillion stars and listen to the sound of animals outside.

All the meals were well prepared with great choices. The homemade soups were my favorites as were the desserts, of course.

We always seemed to eat too much which was a problem as it is not safe to go for a walk after your meal unless you are accompanied by a masai who carries a flaslhight and spear, just in case.

When it's time to hit the sack, you are given a whistle to blow, should you need something in the middle of the night. The Masais watch the camp throughout the night to ensure everyones safety but still this tells you that you are in the wild and about to enjoy the real thing.

Also it must be noted that from the dining tent/lodge and swimming pool, there is a water hole where animals come for a drink on occasion. We saw some waterbucks the first night we were there.

Our guide was also exceptional. He seemed to know the best spots to see so many of the African animals.

In fact we got to see a very large variety of them and in great numbers too.

What surprised us too was his knowledge of birds and vegetation as well as everything there is to know about the habits of the various wildlife species which added to our knowledge and excitement about this vacation.

We recommend Tarangire Treetops Lodge to anyone looking for either a relaxing stay or for a wile adventure.

For us, we wanted a relaxing three days for our anniversary. We got that and much more. One day we stayed in our room on our porch overlooking the Rift Valley, went to the pool, and had smores around the fire at night.

The next day we went on a hiking safari and a drive through the private park. We saw everything you would see on an all out safari. We couldn't believe it. On top of it all, the food was unbelievable.

The best part of it all was probably the managers of the lodge. They were there for our every need and provided things we never even asked for.

"Champagne in our room on our first night, candle-lit dinners on the pool deck." If you want to stay at a place that has it all together, please stay here. Hopefully we'll see you there.

Astride the path of the Elephant migration, Tarangire Treetops Lodge sits alone in a private conservation area bordering Tarangire National Park which covers an area of 260 sq kms and the Masai Steppe amid rolling baobab studded hills with views to Lake Manyara and the Rift Valley wall.

Tarangire Treetops has a magical appeal to anyone with a sense of fun and adventure.
