The Batwa in the Forest

The Batwa in the Forest

There are a lot of places to travel to in South africa, specifically the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This is a place to connect. I don’t mean connecting through social media and looking for ways how to hack an instagram account or connecting with Facebook — NO! This is a place where you can explore nature, and connect with nature and befriend the locals!

The Batwa pygmies lived in trees of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, south west Uganda and the caves. However, with a rise in conservation and tourism efforts, these ‘keepers of the woods’ have been forced to leave their forest dwelling.

The Batwa tribe:

The highlight of a Uganda safari, is a trek to find the mountain gorillas. After all, what comes close to experience with the last primate cousins of our planet and coming using a Silverback? As the possibility of infection increases, sanctuary in the woods was granted to the mountain gorilla population of Bwindi and, the Batwa – with compensation or no land rights – were left to fend for themselves.

Knowledge of the woods and the Batwa’s primeval habits heritage were at risk of dying out. In 100 acres of woods, which are adjacent to Bwindi National Park, the BDP – a community led project – has allowed the Batwa to preserve their own traditions for future generations, in addition to providing a cultural turn for anybody visiting the nation’s gorillas on a Uganda safari.

Batwa Facts:

The projects focus on enhancing income generation initiatives in addition to the lives of Batwa people through education, health, land acquisition.

Storytelling is a part of Batwa culture – writing materials and critical in a world without books. This is vital for Batwa’s generation – providing the manner in. It is also what makes the BDP so palatable, as it is not only an experience for people on a Uganda safari – many of the Batwa children have never set foot in their ancestors’ ancient Earth, however they now have opportunities to learn from their forefathers and to retain a feeling of their heritage.

Uganda tourism market is beginning to take shape, such as a Batwa trail on the Rwenzori Mountains, with several activities planned for the forthcoming year, support for conservation, in addition to more itineraries offering adventures. By finding a world beyond the experience that is typical play your part on a trip to Uganda and find out what this diverse country offers.
