I've stayed at The Sands At Chale Island Mombasa Hotel twice and thoroughly recommend staying here if you are visitng eastern Africa and want a beach vacation.

Stunning location. Great design and finishing to pretty much everything in the resort. Excellent food and a pretty good wine list. Amazing location. Beautiful powder white beach. Range of water sports. Extremely friendly and helpful service.

You can easily jump to the Maasai Mara for some safari also. Then return here for some rest.

It is spread out to offer the utmost in privacy and romance, even when at full capacity one has a tremendous feeling of peace and tranquillity.

The Sands At Chale Island Mombasa Hotel opened on 1st December 2006 and offers 7 categories of rooms to cater to the individual preferences and needs of the guests.

There are a total of 50 rooms, bandas and suites comprising: 16 tower rooms in the two tower buildings, 2 penthouses on top of the two tower buildings, 9 standard bandas, 14 superior bandas, 6 chale bandas, 1 water bungalow junior suite, 1 water bungalow suite and 1 honeymoon suite.

The towers are carefully set into the natural environment, two towers with sixteen spacious semi-circular en-suite rooms and Swahili day beds set on breezy verandahs facing the ocean ensure all comforts are taken care of.

At The Sands At Chale Island Mombasa Hotel, there are three different categories of Bandas (Swahili: small house) offer a unique and truly coastal holiday.

All Bandas have high, palm thatch roofs with views either out to sea, over the beach, or panoramas encompassing lagoon, channel, mangroves and the setting sun over the Shimba hills.

Honeymoon suite; a circular stairway leads one around an intricately crafted wall garden to an upstairs lounge, while the front verandah overlooks a private Jacuzzi on the cliff face, a sunbathing deck and two gazebos where one can just chill out and relax
