Uganda Christian University is located 23 kilometres from Kampala, in Mukono town, on the the main road to Jinja.

It is a private university, chartered and fully accredited by the President of the Republic of Uganda, through the Ministry of Higher Education and Sports, and the National Council for Higher Education.

UCU is owned by the Province of the Church of Uganda, and has campuses in Eastern, Western and Northern Uganda.

The University was born out of Bishop Tucker Theological College. The college was founded in 1913 in response to a growing need for pastors in the Church.

Christian University has all the necessities for an excellent education. It is recognised internationally and nationally. The Most Rev. Henry Luke Orombi, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda is Chancellor, and the Rt. Rev. Dr George Carey is our Patron.

Uganda Christian University is the first African affiliate member of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities in the United States, and a member of the Colleges and Universities of the Anglican Communion.

Christian University is dedicated, through teaching, scholarship, service, spiritual formation, student development and social involvement, to preparing students for thoughtful, productive lives of Christian faith and service in their respective professions and places.



Directions to UCU

From Kampala, take the Jinja Highway (which leads straight from the main Kampala road east). Mukono is 23 kilometres away. As you enter Mukono, indicate right as you drive over the first set of speed bumps, and you’ll see the sign for UCU. Drive up the hill for approximately a kilometre. The main campus entrance is on your left.





Christian University in Uganda and its Courses




THE green scenery ushers you into Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono. Formed in 1997, UCU strives to offer an all-round education— the heart, hands and spirit.

Foundation of Christian University in Uganda

The Province of the Church of Uganda owns UCU. It was born out of Bishop Tucker Theological College which was founded in 1913 in response to a growing need for pastors in the Church. The 84-year-old institution was transformed into a fully-fledged university in 1997.

Bishop Stuart University in Ankole Diocese and Bishop Barham University in Kabale — are affiliated to UCU.

The university is located about 23 kilometres on the Kampala-Jinja highway in Mukono district.

Legal status of Christian University in Uganda

lUCU was the first private university to be chartered in 2004. Former Archbishop Livingstone Nkoyoyo was the first Chancellor with Bishop Eriphaz Maari as his deputy.

Administrative staff of Christian University in Uganda

The chancellor of UCU is the Rt. Rev. Henry Luke Orombi and his vice is Prof. Steven Noll. Others include; Dr. Florence Bakibinga Sajjabi (Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) Finance & Administration), Rev. Can. Dr Alex Kagume Mugisha (DVC Academic Affairs) and Rev.Can. Dr John Senyonyi (DVC Development and External Relations).

Staffing Levels of Christian University in Uganda

UCU boasts of over 260 lecturers and 33 PhD holders. New staff were recently recruited, supplemented by visiting lecturers from US, Canada, India, Australia, the UK and South Africa. In 2000, UCU held its first graduation ceremony with 324 students. In 2001, President Yoweri Museveni laid a foundation stone for a multi-purpose lecture hall.

Computers of Christian University in Uganda

There are over 250 computer stations at the campus and over 100 at the Bishop Barham University College connected with Internet.

Constituent colleges of Christian University in Uganda

UCU boasts of constituent colleges, Bishop Barham University College in Kabale, and study centers, St Paul’s Study Centre in Arua (north west Uganda), and Buwalasi Study Centre in Mbale.

Accommodation of Christian University in Uganda

Sabiti Hall for females and Nsibambi Hall for males, are the two new multimillion halls with 30 Internet connected computers and emergency power supply. Each accommodates 400 students. UCU also has small halls of residence on campus. Students also stay in private hostels off campus. Enrollment of Uganda Christian University in Uganda

To date, 6,000 students have enrolled at UCU. Over 280 are foreign students. Every year, UCU recruits 70 students from the USA annually. This exchange program with universities in the USA gives the 70 students a study and life experience in Africa. The university also recruits about 250 students from other parts of the world. UCU is the only Ugandan university that admits students on a three-semester basis annually.

Work on a sports complex is almost finished.

Academic facilities of Christian University in Uganda

The present libraries (main library, law and technology park) have a total of 80,000 volumes. However, construction of a new library gets underway later this year. It will have 250,000 volumes of books.

International partnerships of Christian University in Uganda

UCU has partnered with varsities like Association of Commonwealth Universities, Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (USA) with 102 member universities. Others are; George Mason University (USA), University of Western Sydney (Australia), Bethel University (USA), International Christian Medical Institute (Canada), Inter-serve (Canada), Metanexus Institute (USA), Uganda Partners (USA).
