Zamani Kempinski Hotel Zanzibar is set in its own huge green grounds full of beautiful trees and plants (how they manage to keep them SO must be quite a job in the long hot dry season).
On arrival,we were easily checked in and given a Terrace Room. All the rooms are in little blocks of around 6/8 rooms in separate buildings spread out through the grounds.
Our block was the furthest away from the main reception area/restaurant/pool BUT right beside the lovely spa with its own infinity pool overlooking the Indian Ocean.
It was a 2min walk away from our room and we were the only people ever to use it whilst there ! So,in effect,we had our own infinity pool!

The room itself was lovely:huge 4 poster bed with lovely linen, great bathroom with big bath, indoor shower and outdoor shower,a small balcony AND steps up to a roof top terrace.
We used room service for dining a few times:service was quick and polite and the food was good too(and reasonable prices).Breakfast was a buffet affair in the main restaurant: huge selection of items. You could sit indoors or in the courtyard area.
The reception area had a nice pool table and free broadband internet access. The main pool was huge, clean and quiet too. There is a beautiful jetty out to the sea where, once again, the food was gorgeous and the views were delightful.
At night they had lights on the water so you could see the tuna fish feeding.
When the tide was out it was easy to go exploring around the rocks and little bays, watching the local kids play with their handmade boats or fishing.
The hotel is atop a cliff and there are lovely landscaped walks all along. We seemed to be the only ones ever using it, never seeing other guests and only the occasional guard who we’d have a chat.
The accommodations are the best on the island with the finishings on the rooms being very, very high end. There are wonderful outdoor showers in all the rooms.
The rooms don't feel at all Zanzibarian -- they're straight out of a 5 star luxury resort anywhere in the world.
If you're looking for that local feeling (which tends to be more rustic) then the Zamani Kempinski Hotel Zanzibar is not for you.
I have stayed at several hotels in Zanzibar and none compare to the serenity one can experience at the Zamani Kempinski.
I think this has most to do with the size of the hotel grounds (over 30 acres?).
There is no other hotel on the island as of yet that can compete with this. Consequently the peace and quiet that is achieved is as authentic as it can be.
All you hear most of the time are the gentle sway of coconut trees and waves gently hitting the rocks on the beach below (if the tide is high).
When the sun is fully out and the tide is high the ever changing azure waters of the lagoon is almost hypnotizing.
The rooms are awesome. As an expat living in east africa I appreciate all the modern conveniences the 21st century has to offer when I can get them! No makuti thatch huts here!
The bathroom is as large as the main bedroom and comes complete with 3 separate types of showers and a bathtub. The huge plasma TV is great too.
NOT TO FORGET the included high speed unlimited internet in each room - a great feature that I think is unique from any other hotel in Zanzibar.
Do go to the Zamani Kempinski Hotel Zanzibar if you like peace & quiet, contemplating existence while staring into a night sky filled with a million stars and stopping in awe of the sight of a full moon rising upon the Indian ocean.
On the other hand, if you prefer night clubs and disco please do continue down the beach a few km. to one of those 'Italian club resorts"...
The pool + area is kept very clean. Their pool is definately the best out of all the other we used at other resorts.
It's big and divided into three sections (sides are shallow with a basket ball hoop in one end and just a chill out are in the other end. In the middle is deep and you can swim laps.)
The jetty bar was amazing. Great place for lunch and evening drinks. It's also possible to go for a dip from it at the tip by the bar area as well as from other points.
