Summary of Great Maralal Camel Trek Safari :

This camel trekking safari is staged in the northern Kenya wilds. The safari is designed for those hardy adventure travelers. You ride or walk through the bush in tune with the sounds of nature.

Your guides are the semi nomadic Samburu, some of Kenya’s colourful indigenous tribes people. The camel train and surviving in the rough wilderness is for them a way of life. You will see some wildlife and spectacular scenery too.

Itinerary of Great Maralal Camel Trek Safari :

Day 1: NAIROBI - MARALAL

0900- drive from Nairobi via Nyahururu, Rumuruti to Maralal. Lunch on your own. Overnight stay is arranged at Maralal Camel Club in self contained Bandas (cottages)

Dinner and overnight at Maralal Camel Club

Day 2: CAMEL TREKKING/WALKING

After breakfast, start trek with your Samburu Moran (warrior) guides.

After enjoying a picnic lunch, continue with your ride/trek. You arrive in the afternoon arrive at your pre-prepared campsite. Your safari cook will be ready with afternoon tea and snacks.

Dinner and overnight at Campsite

Day 3, 4 & 5: CAMEL TREKKING/WALKING

After breakfast, you may choose to ride/walk through the bush accompanied by your guide. You pass through Samburu Manyattas (homesteads).

Your Moran guides may negotiate for your visit to the village. Picnic lunch. Afternoon ride/trek. Arrive at already set up campsite. Note that you will overnight at a different campsite each day.

Day 6 CAMEL TREKKING/WALKING

Breakfast. You ride back to Maralal. Lunch at the Camel Club. Afternoon guided walk to the Maralal market. Evening Samburu dance by Samburu women and Morans.

Day 7: MARALAL - NAIROBI

After breakfast depart southbound via Laikipia plains and Nyahururu (Thompsons Falls). You arrive back in Nairobi by mid afternoon.

NOTE

* This is not a luxury safari, nor is it rough and uncomfortable.Guides are local Samburu.

* You walk or ride as you choose. Support vehicle carries luggageand camp supplies, and any personal needs, such as drinks(you purchase in advance if you need from the Clubhouse on dayof departure)

* Tents and showers are erected for you. The cook will make sureyou are well fed.

* Afternoons are free for walks with Samburu Morans. You neverknow what you bump into next!

* Private transfer to and from Maralal US$ 300 Each way.

what you need to bring on safari to Great Maralal Camel Trek Safari :

* Sleeping bag (available for hire for US$ 15 per bag per safariplus a refundable deposit of US$ 40 after the safari)

* Money for personal spending and tipping

Only a small case or rucksack, as storage space is limited

* A pair of long trousers and jersey for the cool mornings andevenings, in addition to plenty of light clothes for hot days(do not forget a hat), a pillow, good walking shoes

* Torch, sunglasses, suntan lotion, insect repellent/spray butnot mosquito coils

* Mineral water for drinking (available for sale in Nairobi andother towns)

* Camera, films, binoculars, maps and guide-books
